EIRENE aims to establish itself as a European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC) during its implementation phase (2026–2030), which represents the primary objective of the EIRENE Implementation Project. The final structure of EIRENE-ERIC is intentionally designed to be simple and transparent. A clear distinction—highlighted in orange—defines what is included within the ERIC legal entity and what remains outside of it.

The governance model is primarily shaped by the ERIC legal framework and will include the core components mandated by the ERIC Regulation, such as the General Assembly and the Director-General, along with a Head Office and potentially Central Coordination Units. While entities such as National Nodes, advisory boards, the Stakeholders Forum, and the National Nodes Committee are not legally part of EIRENE-ERIC, they remain integral to the broader EIRENE ecosystem and are therefore described in the governance outline.
