Exposome | UMC Utrecht

The exposome is a concept that links non-genetic factors of health and measures all of a person's exposures throughout life and the relationship of those exposures to health effects. Most diseases are complex - the exposome is about assessing the complex interactions between all exposures throughout the life course and also developing methods to do this. The exposome reinforces the idea that each person's disease is the product of their individual history of exposures superimposed on their underlying genetic susceptibility.

RECETOX | 40 years on a path toward a healthy future

For four decades, RECETOX has studied the complex relationship between humans and the environment, building knowledge and understanding about the environmental and health risks linked to toxic substances to create a healthier, safer, and more sustainable future for all.

European Life Science Research Infrastructures- Shared Use of Technologies for Scientific Excellence

Pioneering technologies are currently transforming research in the life sciences (https://lifescience-ri.eu): structural biology, chemical screening, advanced imaging or data analysis. For this kind of multidisciplinary research access to high-end technologies and services is essential. But in most cases, it is not easily available for every scientist. For these reasons, European Life Science Research Infrastructures were established to grant this access and to successfully translate lab findings into future medical care. link

European Life Science Research Infrastructures – How our users advanced their research projects

Do you have a promising project but missing technology, skills or data? Then we invite you to reach out to us, the Research Infrastructures in the Life Sciences! We are open to all scientists from academia and industry. Read more on https://lifescience-ri.eu

Animation Utrecht Exposome Hub

Together with its partners, Utrecht University has made plans to tackle fourteen key societal challenges. To this end, the UU has identified fourteen so-called hubs. One of the hubs related to the strategic theme Life Sciences is the Utrecht Exposome Hub. But what is Exposome research? To find out, have a look at this video.

Exposome-NL | Exposome & preventative health

At the first Exposome-NL conference, Roel Vermeulen, scientific director and member of the Executive Board, reflects on the nascent and transformative field of exposome research. Why it's important, the steps needed to establish associations with health outcomes and where will we be in 8 years time, the end of term of the Exposome-NL programme. (June 2022)

ATHLETE Project | Interview with project coordinator Martine Vrijheid

ATHLETE (Advancing Tools for Human Early Lifecourse Exposome Research and Translation) is a European-funded project that aims to better understand and prevent health effects of numerous environmental hazards and their mixtures, starting from the earliest stages of life.
The project aims to develop a human exposome toolbox that can be used to evaluate the effects of a large number of environmental exposures in individuals, as well as in communities, in order to design policies and interventions to prevent or reduce their health impact.

Exposome-NL | Exposome & preventative health

At the first Exposome-NL conference, Joline Beulens, member of Executive Board, reflects on the nascent and transformative field of exposome research. Why it's important, the steps needed to establish associations with health outcomes and where will we be in 8 years time, the end of term of the Exposome-NL programme. (June 2022)

What are research infrastructures?

Research infrastructures are organizations that enable scientists and research communities to use specific facilities, resources and services to promote excellent research. The video was made by EMPHASIS, the European Infrastructure for Plant Phenotyping.

Exposome Scan - building the infrastructure for exposome research

The Exposome-Scan project, that builds on Exposome-NL and X-omics, has been awarded 3.2 million euros from the NWO Investment Grant Large program. With the grant, researchers from various Dutch institutes and medical centers will build a unique, large-scale open facility for exposome research.

How a lifetime of exposures impact health – exposome explained

Exposomics study of the fascinating interplay between the cumulative effects of external exposures on a person's body and genes. Konstantinos Lazaridis and Gary Miller explain why you need to recognize that people are exposed to hundreds or thousands of things per day, and why it’s important to study that complexity. The experts are featured on Tomorrow's Cure, a Mayo Clinic podcast that is bringing the future of healthcare to the present.
