Travel guidance to Brno

How to go to Brno

Traveling to Brno

Travel to and from Brno is easy by plane, train, or bus. There are regular flights between Brno Tuřany Airport and London Stansted Airport (via Ryanair). By train, Brno is connected with Prague, Vienna, Bratislava, Budapest, Berlin and Ostrava. Also, regular buses connect Brno with a number of cities across Europe. We advise you to use Brno or Vienna airport unless you have some programme in Prague.

From the Vienna Airport to Brno

There is no direct flight from Vienna to Brno because of too short a distance, but you can get to Brno by bus right from the Vienna International Airport in around two hours. The service is provided by Student Agency / RegioJet, Flixbus and Gepard Express. One-way connection costs 16 – 20 Euro. Some Student Agency / RegioJet and Flixbus connections also leave from Vienna Main train station (there are three regular airport lines connecting the airport and the main transport hubs). If you prefer travelling by train, you can use České dráhy direct connection from Vienna Main train station to Brno, which takes approximately 85 minutes.

Venue

The meeting will take place in the new Mendel's Green house located in the historical premises of Augustinian Abbey. The construction of the original Cistercian cloister began in 14th century. In 18th century, the cloister was transferred to the Augustinians. One of the most famous resident and religious leader of the Abbey was the geneticist and abbot Johan Gregor Mendel, who conducted his scientific experiments in the greenhouse in monastery garden between 1856 and 1863. In 2002, the Mendel Museum has been established to nurture the legacy of Johan Gregor Mendel and to present his famous scientific work. In 2022, the new Mendel Greenhouse was built on the foundations of original Greenhouse, where Mendel performed his experiments. The new Greenhouse copies the original floor plan and orientation.
