The 2026 annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science held in Phoenix provided an opportunity to introduce emerging scientific disciplines bringing together multidisciplinary expertise to fill gaps between traditional research domains. EIRENE was invited to contribute to two such sessions, on Planetary Health and on Human Exposome.

EIRENE Represented by RECETOX at the OEWG Science-Policy Panel

Uruguay hosted the final negotiation round of the Open-ended Working Group on the Science-Policy Panel. This panel is being established to strengthen the science-policy interface in support of the sound management of chemicals and waste, and to prevent pollution.The panel is expected to play a pivotal role in providing expert scientific input to policy processes—similar to the functions of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES).

EOSC National Tripartite Event: Czech Republic

BRNO — The 2025 National Tripartite Event (NTE) of the Czech Republic took place in Brno on 21 May 2025, as part of the Research Data Days. The opening keynote was delivered by Jana Klanová, focusing on EIRENE and its data requirements. Her presentation highlighted EIRENE as a compelling example of the importance of interdisciplinary data integration, emphasizing the need for high-quality, harmonized data to support impactful research.The event featured a panel discussion dedicated to the future of EOSC along with several sessions on data-related topics that highlighted activities of Czech actors, with special emphasis on the role of Artificial Intelligence and research infrastructures.

EHEN calls for policy action on environmental and health risks

The European Human Exposome Network (EHEN) has released a policy brief urging EU policymakers to take action to address the rising public health crisis caused by pollution, chemicals and environmental degradation. The policy brief highlights key findings from EHEN’s extensive research, emphasising that environmental factors, from air pollution to chemical exposure, significantly contribute to the burden of non-communicable diseases. It calls for targeted interventions and transformative policies that prioritise health and sustainability.
