Regional webinar on capacities for and status of the environmentally sound management of PCBs in the European region

The Stockholm Convention Regional Centre at RECETOX, in collaboration with the BRS Secretariat organized a 75 minute webinar online for countries in European region on polychlorinated biphenyls on 13 February 2026. The webinar was organized as a part of implementation of the contract (SSFA 2527).

Objective of the meeting was to support the Parties on meeting their obligations related to 2025 and 2028 goals on PCBs environmentally sound management under the Stockholm Convention on persistent organic pollutants regarding their phase out and disposal respectively. The meeting provided outcomes of a regional assessment on the current status quo and available capacities for PCB management in Europe and also presented results of the market study on available PCB disposal technologies in Europe.

The invitation was dispatched widely, to Focal Points of the Stockholm Convention and Basel Convention of Parties in Europe (EU and non-EU countries) as well as PCB experts beyond NFPs, to BRS secretariat but also to international organizations involved in and supporting the environmentally sound management of PCB in Europe/globally. There were over 225 invitations and over 70 participants. However some had to decline due to the term holidays, but asked for a recording.
