The first module, GMP Training – Monitoring and Analyses of Chemicals, was held from 15–18 June 2026 and was co-organised by the Stockholm Convention Regional Centre at RECETOX, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
The training focused on the monitoring and analysis of Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) within the framework of the Stockholm Convention and the Global Monitoring Plan (GMP). Participants gained both theoretical knowledge and practical experience in areas including sample collection, passive air sampling, laboratory analysis, monitoring networks, data interpretation, and FAIR data principles. The programme also included visits to RECETOX analytical laboratories and biobank facilities.
The second module, EU–CELAC Study Visit on Research Infrastructures, focused on the operation and management of research infrastructures, open-access models, research services, and opportunities for international collaboration. The programme introduced participants to RECETOX’s experience in environmental health research, human exposome assessment, environmental monitoring, population cohorts, biobanks, advanced analytical approaches, data services, and open science. Participation was highly competitive, with only eight representatives from Latin American and Caribbean countries selected for this prestigious training programme.
Together, both modules highlighted the importance of integrating environmental monitoring, advanced analytical methods, toxicology, regulatory science, research infrastructures, and data-driven approaches to better understand chemical exposures and their impacts on human health and the environment.
The 22nd RECETOX Summer School contributed to international capacity building, knowledge exchange, and strengthening collaboration among professionals working in environmental health, chemical safety, and research infrastructure development.
