Exposome and Alzheimer’s Disease at International Symposium in Chile

 From September 25–27, 2025, Santiago, Chile hosted the Second Latin American Exposome Symposium, titled “Integrating Environmental Exposures into Research on Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias.” The event brought together over 100 scientists, clinicians, and trainees from around the world to explore how environmental exposures influence brain health and aging.

Successful risk assessment training in Podgorica

A two-day training on Environmental and Human Health Risk Assessment of Chemicals in the EU – Principles and Regulatory Practices was held in hotel Ramada in Podgorica, Montenegro, 25–26 August 2025. The training was organized by the RECETOX Stockholm Convention Regional Centre in collaboration with the Centre for Eco-Toxicological Research, Montenegro in the framework of the GEF project on Update of the National Implementation Plan under the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants.

EIRENE Represented by RECETOX at the OEWG Science-Policy Panel

Uruguay hosted the final negotiation round of the Open-ended Working Group on the Science-Policy Panel. This panel is being established to strengthen the science-policy interface in support of the sound management of chemicals and waste, and to prevent pollution.The panel is expected to play a pivotal role in providing expert scientific input to policy processes—similar to the functions of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES).

EIRENE at 3rd ESFRI Stakeholder Forum Meetup

In the second week of June, the 3rd ESFRI Stakeholder Forum Meetup was organised in cooperation with the Polish presidency. The Forum, with the key topic of "Sustainability of the Research Infrastructure ecosystem", aimed to discuss ideas and best practices regarding the enhancement of the quality and sustainability of Research Infrastructures, foster trust and cooperation among stakeholders, and promote integration within the R&I ecosystem, including building effective synergies with Technology Infrastructures.

The NIH announced the launch of the Global Exposome Forum, marking the first discovery-driven, international initiative dedicated to understanding how environmental exposures and lifestyle factors influence human health (Exposome Moonshot Forum, Washington Declaration) As part of this global effort, the European Infrastructure project EIRENE and the International Human Exposome Network (IHEN) were acknowledged as key partners, alongside the U.S.-based Network for Exposomics (NEXUS), in advancing collaborative research and innovation in exposomics.

Exposome Scan - building the infrastructure for exposome research

The Exposome-Scan project, that builds on Exposome-NL and X-omics, has been awarded 3.2 million euros from the NWO Investment Grant Large program. With the grant, researchers from various Dutch institutes and medical centers will build a unique, large-scale open facility for exposome research.

European Life Science Research Infrastructures (LS-RI): Shared Use of Technologies for Scientific Excellence

Pioneering technologies are currently transforming research in the life sciences (https://lifescience-ri.eu): structural biology, chemical screening, advanced imaging or data analysis. For this kind of multidisciplinary research access to high-end technologies and services is essential. But in most cases, it is not easily available for every scientist.
