WP02 - Scientific vision, innovation and service architecture and provision
Objectives
The aim of this WP, based on the outcomes of WP1, is to develop ambitious, but realistic vision and a roadmap for an EIRENE ERIC in the field of the exposome to address scientific, societal and technological challenges.
Tasks (months 19-36)
Task 2.1: Vision and interim roadmap of EIRENE ERIC Task leader Inserm, partners CNR, UU, MU, VITO, NHRF, AUTH
Based on deliverable T1.1 and T1.2, we will develop our vision for distributed EIRENE research infrastructure and for the future EIRENE ERIC and complement it with a realistic roadmap, which will refine and specify already existing plans, which were rather general and broader. The roadmap will attribute specific short, medium and long-term goals, synchronise various developments and prioritize resilience and efficiency to ensure coordinated progress across all infrastructure components toward measurable outcomes. This will be based on our assessment of societal needs in Europe and of the technological advances world-wide and their relevance to addressing the societal needs. Close interactions with major programmes and networks will also support the production of the roadmap: IHEN, PARC, NEXUS. We will also interact with EU agencies and with several infrastructures in Europe to promote complementarities and synergies: Elixir, BBMRI, ECRIN, EATRIS, ACTRIS. Close cooperation and interactions with national authorities in charge to manage public health-related policies will also be part of the effort of this task. Vision and interim roadmap of EIRENE (Del 2.1, M24) will be the outcome of this task and will be key input for Task 2.2.
Inserm will contribute by co-leading the task, in particular the elaboration of the interim roadmap based on the outcomes of WP1 and by close interactions with IHEN, PARC and NEXUS. CNR will contribute by mapping the expertise profile of EIRENE national nodes and draft a preliminary map of EIRENE competence centers that may ensure high-level expertise in specific steps involved in workflow’s exposome-related studies (or exposome-block chain of knowledge). UU, JSI, NHRF, AUTH and MU will contribute to the interim roadmap content by integration of national, European and global policy frameworks into the EIRENE roadmap. The goal is to outline the EIRENE’s functioning and governance structure and management strategies considering the existing infrastructures and competences of EIRENE national nodes and favoring the synergies among various partners/institutions at national and European scale.
Task 2.2: vision and consolidated roadmap of EIRENE (Task leader Inserm, partners CNR, UU, MU, NHRF 19-36M)
The interim roadmap (Del 2.1) will be circulated among the scientific community through a specific survey, will be discussed at relevant fora (IHEN network, Exposome Moonshot Forum, scientific conferences and meetings with stakeholders) and importantly also with national authorities. We will collect comments and suggestions and conduct a second series of discussions with programme and infrastructure leaders. Additional discussions will take place with the European Commission and national policy makers to fine tune our proposals and to ensure a relevant proposal in line with the scientific and political agenda. Vision and consolidated roadmap of EIRENE (Del 2.2, M30) will be the main outcome of this task and will become one of the key strategic documents of EIRENE.
Inserm will contribute by co-leading the task, in particular the elaboration of the roadmap based on the outcomes of the interactions with European and international organisations. CNR will contribute by drafting the survey of the interim roadmap to be submitted to key representatives of the scientific community and existing networks and national authorities. Comments received will be the basis of the revision of the Interim Roadmap that will be submitted for final revision to the General Assembly of EIRENE and European Commission. UU, NHRF and MU will contribute to the interim roadmap content by contributing their scientific expertise, reviewing the latest developments in their fields, and making sure the roadmap reflects the broad range of methods and infrastructures needed to move exposome research forward.
T2.3 Service architecture of EIRENE (Task leader: MU, 19-36M, partners Inserm, CNR, UU, JSI, VITO, UNIVIE, AUTH, all)
Based on continuously developed service catalogue, scientific vision and the feedback from partners and the BGR members, the service architecture will be developed and communicated to all stakeholders and users. Architecture will become a key feature for the development of the EIRENE Statute and other legal and institutional documents. The architecture will describe EIRENE pillars, centrally provided and distributed services, potential knowledge hubs, and also the interaction among partners, and other corresponding details (e.g. data management framework, logic of integrated services). The EIRENE Service Architecture (Del 2.3, M32) will be the main outcome of this task. MU will propose the overall structure of EIRENE Service Architecture based on the inputs provided by Inserm, CNR, UU, VITO, AUTH, UNIVIE and JSI, all partners will provide inputs to answer the needs of the broader scientific community both in terms of service available and the access management system to the services. The MU will ensure that the outcomes will be properly used in WP4.
